Each December, the Burrard Yacht Club rings in the holiday season in spectacular nautical style with its much-loved Festival of Lights. For over 30 years, this cherished tradition has warmed hearts, bringing a dazzling display of festively decorated boats to Vancouver Harbour. The event has become a seasonal highlight for locals and visitors alike, spreading cheer and lighting up the waterfront in an unforgettable way.
A Festive Night on the Water
For one magical night each year, boaters transform their vessels into floating holiday masterpieces adorned with twinkling LED lights, wreaths, ornaments, and inflatable decorations. These illuminated boats form a merry parade, traveling in procession around the harbour to the delight of onlookers. People of all ages gather along the waterfront to enjoy the spectacle, with families, friends, and photographers all making it part of their holiday celebrations. The parade creates a beautiful, festive atmosphere, perfect for getting into the holiday spirit.

Where to Watch the Magic
Some of the best spots to view the Festival of Lights include Waterfront Park, the popular Shipyards pier, and numerous waterfront restaurants that provide excellent views of the harbour. The boats follow a picturesque route, pausing at Lonsdale Quay to sound their horns in celebration before continuing their journey to Coal Harbour. The parade eventually circles back to North Vancouver, where the boats complete their joyful loop.
